The Fringe Benefits of EBiking

I started full time ebiking almost two years ago for purely treehugging reasons. Okay, maybe not purely. I do enjoy the simpler lifestyle, getting out into nature a couple of times a day, and the premium parking spaces bikes always get at the grocery store. What it was doing to my body was more subtle and harder to notice. I just happened to have a doctor's appointment right before I sold my car. I compared the results of that to what I measured yesterday and was pleasantly surprised. I have always tended towards the slender side, eat a reasonable diet, and get enough exercise.

Speccing out very fast e-bike - will this setup work?

I am thinking about putting together a fast electric bike for commuting to work. Can you experts give me an idea if this setup will work technically, or if you see any problems with this configuration?

Also, any opinions on alternatives to each component are welcome - I am still researching. I am 6'4" and 220lbs, and I need to ride about 8 miles to work ( I can charge at work), and I want to accelerate and go as fast as possible.

Batteries:
4 dewalt 36v, wired for 72v

Chargers:
2 dewalt chargers

Chucks "Cheetah" A John Bidwell designed bike

The Raliegh Mountain Bike that I built was more of a test project. I wanted an electric vehicle that could get me to work 6 miles from my home.

Update on Crystalyte Cannon Kit from ATIV Solutions

I emailed Eric Converse from ATIV Solutions with the following questions:

Hi, I've been researching several similar e-bike solutions including the Bionx and Crystalyte Journey. I am particularly interested in your
product as it features the new Crystalyte Cannon motor, which I think would work well with my Trek 2003 7500 Hybrid. A few questions:

1. Does it have a self-limiting controller like the Bionx? If so, is it defeatable?

2. Does if feature regenerative braking?

Liberty Electric Mountain Bike

:) I bought a Liberty Electric 443 mountain bike with lead acid batteries two months ago and to this point I am very satisfied.

Rad2go Sunbird ??

Someone where i live wants to sell me a used rad2go sunbird for $100. It looks like it might be a fun toy to play with but with a 250 watt hub motor its very underpowered. Has anyone looked into rewinding or mod it to improve performance?
Paul

I think I fried my controller

I have an XLyte crystalyte motor on my mountainbike. I have six 12v 12ah SLA's hooked up to to two 36v chargers. It goes through a 35amp controller. Yesterday when I tried to throttle the power just cut off. It was like I had a loose connection or something. I checked the electrical system, and no bad connection. But there was a bad smell from the controller. The red light still comes on when I turn on the controller. My question is: how can I test the controller to see if it is the problem? Is there a fuse in there? I do have a voltmeter, can I use it to test it somehow?

noob bike questions...

hello all! nice new digs here! i used to lurk and ask a few questions on the old site, was very close to getting a cyclone kit but then tax time came, i need the money and my computer needed work. anyway, i'm back at it trying to see if i can put together a good bike for getting around town - san francisco - so it needs to be able to get up these hills! i know the guy over at cyclone usa has built a hill climber and i think i will go that route, i just need to find a bike.
