MB-1-E Part Twenty Two: New Tire

Last week my rear tire had a blowout.
Fortunately I was going slow and was able to get off the bike before all the air had escaped.
It all happened pretty quick though, could have been a problem if I was crusin' at full speed.

I looked down and there was a pencil sized hole right through the tire, it was a cheap Wally-World tire.
Walked the bike home, along the grass where I could, so I wouldn't hurt the ARAYA #7X 26x 1.75 Alloy Silver anodized rim.

Bikes been sittin' ever since.

Happy Second Anniversary to Me

It's been two years now since that fateful flight from Atlanta. I'm sure we've all been there. You're bored. There's a SkyMall magazine. You flip though it not really intending to buy anything. Some of that stuff sure looks neat though. What caught my eye this time was an electric scooter. Small, quiet, efficient, and cool looking. Further research showed that the Rietti scooter was probably a piece of flotsam, but the seed had been planted. By the end of summer I had acquired a couple of ebikes, sold my car, and started an adventure.

JDH: Opinion Piece on why we should look to someone other than the Auto Industry to produce an all electric vehicle

This opinion piece was published in the Ann Arbor News in July. When it was published I realized quite how long it was (must have been a slow news day!). It ran in the Sunday edition with a large artist sketch of a Zap-X and the title "Idea for the Billionaires". Gosh, darn it - I admit it - this one was good for the ego.

JDH: Opinion Piece on the GM EV1 after the anouncement of the Chevy Volt

This article ran in the Ann Arbor News in January '07. I wrote it after reading an editorial by the business writer that dismissed the EV1 as impractical and praised the Volt as exciting...

I share Mr. Haglund's excitement over the new Chevy Volt - it's a great way for GM to play catch up after being ahead 10 years ago. I wish them luck and I'd like to buy one. I would have preferred to buy an EV1 - but alas I won't have that chance.

what is happening to my Wilderness Experience bike?

hello all
I have only 20 hours on my wilderness experience bike. The charger went bad right away and they would not warranty it. Then it started vibrating badly, like it was going from forward to reverse at 60 times a second. Have any of you out there experienced this?

Bikes and Boxes

I was at the post office yesterday and I noticed this guy. First I noticed him because he was parking his bike next to mine and then because he was schlepping this big package under one arm. That's not easy. I tried it myself last week with a bulky, heavy box that was too big for my panniers, and I was too lazy to hook up the cargo trailer. My arm got tired pretty quickly. Even if the box wasn't heavy it was big enough to be awkward. And it was heavy. Pedaling was cumbersome because my leg tended to collide with the package on each revolution.

It's okay to ask questions

I've been having an issue over the last year.. I have two electric motorcycles, one is a Lectra, the other a home built three-wheeler. But I haven't been able to get them running. I'd get a controller, wire it up according to the instructions, twist the throttle, and nothing happens. Very frustrating, really.

I've gone through several controllers, and I have two alltrax controllers and two logisystems controllers. I wasn't sure if.. each time I hooked up a controller there'd been some sparking, and I wasn't sure if I'd zapped the controller and that's why nothing spun.

What a difference. First time I have spent $526 and been happy. Was able to get about a 10 mile ride in before this tropical storm blew in to Dallas.

The Cheetah, putting things right

I have been reluctant to enter, My back room. You may be shocked to see what I keep back here, parts of dismembered bicycles. After a year of hacking up my favorite bikes I have repented my ways. Come with me and see if I can make things right.

100_0383.jpg

Left dangling by its heel, my first mountain bike, a venerable chromemoly frame, the most comfortable bike I had ever rode, stripped of all its dignity. It called, I entered.
